Eldership
The word Presbyterian denotes the church's style of governance; namely that the life and work of a congregation is taken care of by Elders. The collective noun for the Eldership, which includes the Minister (Teaching Elder) is the "Session".
Elders are elected by the congregation to act on its behalf and serve in its own interests along with the interests of the denomination.
The Session meets once a month to deal with the congregation's life and work. It is accountable to the Presbytery, which is the governing body for all the Presbyterian Churches in the Cape Peninsula and surrounds.
